Default 4WD System Unavailable Service Required

Hi,

I had the following message appear on my 2019 Cherokee TrailHawk:

I have a service appointment scheduled for Monday. Has anyone had this message and what was the problem.

Thanks,

Blown fuse? A quick search took me to a Wrangler forum, and some mentioned loose fuses. Some did find loose fuses, including one for the 4wd system. Found a video on Youtube (2016 Trailhawk) where a guy pulled the 4wd system fuse for whatever reason, and that same error popped up. No clue what your fuse will be, but his was F10. From what ive found so far, fuses are a good place to start.

Pulling the fuse will indeed cause this error. I pulled mine to help diagnose a bad rear driveshaft and got the same error message and code.

After spending 3 days at the dealership.

Rear Drive Module Failure (rear differential) transfer case clutch pressure sensor signal plausibility failure code.
Remove and replace rear differential assembly including motor and rear driveline module.

my Service 4WD light has been on for the last couple weeks (I have had a difficult time getting the dealership near me to do any work, it's a long story) I finally found a dealership an hour away that would take a look at it and the verdict is a bad Power Take Off Unit. I don't know a lot about vehicles and I didn't even know I had one of those...Long story short, should be covered by warranty, but they are dragging their feet.

PTU - power transfer unit...had mine replaced. Among the other 35 things that were also replaced since purchase....just pathetic. Good luck.

Default 4WD System Unavailable Service Required

My 2014 Jeep Cherokee Limited with 60,400 miles just ran into the same issue.
over the last few weeks the service 4wd light has come on randomly and then goes away.
the jeep still drives fine, but in testing it, I discovered it will not go into 4wd low.

I purchased the maxcare lifetime coverage so I took it to the dealer today.
The dealer just got called saying the light went off, so they can’t do anything unless the light is on when they test. Something about the stored code does give them enough info and I should pick up my Jeep.
So I ask him to put it in 4wd low....he called back 10 minutes later and said it’s not working and the will need to keep it over night.
will see what they come up with, at least I know I’m only on the hook for my $100 deductible.

Dealer had their “expert” try and confirm 4wd isn’t working. Because I have maxcare lifetime, they plan to order a bunch of parts which they say will be a week or so to come in.
im going to pickup my Jeep and wait to see how long it really takes.

Dealer took 2 days to replace the PTO unit.
they said the parts were $1700 plus labor.

Luckily the Chrysler lifetime warrantee covered everything but my $100 deductible.
tested snow, mud and 4 wheel low modes and so far so good.

seems there are a lot of posts indicating these fail around 60k miles, but I’m glad to be back on the road.

Angry service 4wd nuisance

My 2019 Cherokee just rolled over 21K miles. Driving up street 2wks ago & "service 4wd" icon appears. Went off when I stopped & started car.
Made a sudden stop next day & it appeared for good! Took it in for service. Dealer diagnosed as needing a new module & it would require front end alignment as well($110)
Drove car home 10.7miles after repairs completed & parked car for 2 days. Started car up yesterday to warm up & never moved it. Got in car
after 10-15mins of warming up & service 4wd light is ON again. Could it really be loose fuse(s)?

One cause of your display fault is a bad battery, modern vehicles are very sensitive to voltage and a sub-standard battery will cause a lot of different warning lights. Go to a local auto parts store like Advance Auto or AutoZone and have them load test your battery. Load testing is usually done for free. Just “okay” is probably not good enough. You may have a different cause, but a battery check is free and easy.

If you think that your 2019 battery cannot have gone bad....think again. Don’t know where you live, but my 2019 battery failed after 24 months in very hot weather. A number of 2019 owners report the same.
