I have changed the battery already i have post it this just now....
I have a 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk 3.2 4WD and I have this issue that comes and goes check engine first and 4WD not available and push for gas won't go as normal but it drives so what I do to go back to normal I will stop turn the engine and wait 2 minutes and turn it back on and it drives normal but the check engine still on. This happens on and off every two week or so I went to autozone and have them look at the code and it shows the camshafts sensors so which were replaced. Few weeks after same error; I read few of the comments that it could be the fuse so I looked at the box and it there was no fuse for the PTU, is this something I need to add or without it is fine? Any suggestion greatly appreciate it cause I didn't take it to the dealer yet since the wait is 5 days I found that ridiculous, please advice!

If the PTU fuse is missing, you'll get the 4wd warning every time, so I'm thinking you're looking at the wrong fuse. I also have a 2014 TH, and started getting the random 4wd unavailable and other odd errors like the body control computer crashing and the wipers refusing to turn off.. Cleaning and tightening the battery connections fixed that.

 

hopefully is not the PTU that needs to be replace this bites it happens every two weeks or so

 

go see your mechanic, sounds like a bad or lose sensor

 

I have a Jeep 2019 Cherokee Limited with only 118K, I have had the software update completed now they say PTU needs to be replaced $3000. This vehicle never offroad highway princes 4 wheel drive never abused. I see that the 2014 - 2017 Jeep Cherokee had this same problem with 60,000 recalled and another 20,000 recalled at another time. Some Jeep drivers have paid to have the PTU replaced to find out that the recall replacement units was also defective. When these clients brought this up with Jeep Canada, they were reimbursed but why has Jeep not fixed this problem. This problem has also been reported in some 2023 Jeep Cherokee. this looks like a decade long problem that Jeep has not fixed. I would be interested in hearing from other Jeep Cherokee owners that may have had this problem. This is my second Jeep Cherokee, I had a 2014 that would not go into park and was looked in 3rd gear nothing was done with this even though it is reported as a safety issue. So I am Probably my last Jeep, Fix Sell get rid of this piece of Junk.

 

Was wondering if you were able to resolve the problem without having to buy a new transfer case. Did you find a way to shut off the motor by finding the correct fuse? I also get a clicking sound when I shift between gears which is the motor, but when I removed it and shifted into gears it worked so maybe not the motor, But i would like to pull the correct fuse and be done with it. Spent too much money already on too many issues with my 2015 Grand Cherokee with 130k.

 

My light doesnt come on until driven a few miles. I have tried everything from fuses, disconnecting battery, etc. If I put in 4WD before driving, it works, but once light is on, will not work. Strange thing is, when its raining, light never comes on. Checked differential cables, seem ok. Just a complete loss of what to do.

 

What do you mean by 'If I put in 4WD before driving'?

Unless I'm mistaken, the Cherokee KL comes with either Front Wheel Drive, or All Wheel Drive.

The models with power to all four wheels are always active - you cannot turn that function off and on.

Are you sure you are talking about a Cherokee KL?

 

My vehicle keeps getting the error message “4WD unavailable, service needed”. This light goes on randomly and turns off just as random. This didn’t start until I hit a particularly large pot hole on the highway and it’s happened ever since. It doesn’t seem to affect the driving in any way, however I would like to fix this issue. Any advice is helpful!

 

Im talking about turning the dial to SNOW or any of the other options before driving. UPDATE: took it to dealer, still under warranty, turns out its the PTU. Waiting for part. $100 deductible. Seems to be quite a faulty system…

 

Same issue. I recently it a deer, repair shop did a full alignment and it was way off. My light had been on for 25,000 miles as I'm not about to pay for a new PTU because it drives fine and the 4WD light is off when it rains or snows. After alignment they had to diagonally rotate my tires because the wear was so bad (dealer had botched the alignment at some point). After a couple of weeks of horrible tires noise I noticed that the SVC 4WD light was off. It remained off completely for a couple of months until I had a low tire. After a couple of weeks of pulling nails out of one tire and constantly filling the tire with air I finally got it to stop leaking. After that the SVC 4WD light has been on every time I start and drive about 5 miles. Unless it is raining or there is snow on the ground. I chalk it up to tire size inconsistency. All 4 tires have to be within 1/8" circumference. That is not much at all. The dealer that I bought my vehicle from had put 2 new front tires on and lowered the pressure in them to 35 psi and the worn tires were registering 38psi (on the dash) I thought this was weird until I filled them all to the same pressure and my SVC 4WD light came on.

Short answer REPLACE ALL 4 TIRES
