My Cherokee does not turn on since morning, Vehicle security red light is switching on for 3 sec and the engine does not start. I am able to start the engine with key fob but as soon as I am inserting the key. I checked the user manual and below number 18 Vehicle Security Light below matches my situation. However, don't know how to reset it or switch it off. Please suggest

I thought all the TrailHawks came with the keyless ignition, but apparently not. If you stick a key in that is not programmed for the vehicle, it will turn it off. So it sounds like either the RFID in the fob is corrupt, broken, the sensor in the key slot has failed, or somehow the ECU lost the programming for the key. Do you have a second key to try?

The remote start function of the fob is programmed differently than the ignition key portion, btw. You can try replacing the battery in the fob, but I believe it uses an RFID chip that doesn't rely on the battery in the fob for the ignition (the reason why they put a hidden door key in the fob, so you can get in and still start the vehicle if the fob battery is dead).

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, I don't have another key. I will try to buy another one tomorrow. I know how to get in with the physical key by unlocking the driver's door but how can I start the car with the key only. I also try to look over the internet for a solution and there are a bunch of key fob combination people suggesting but none of them worked.

The hidden key in the fob is only to open the car door if the battery in the fob dies. The battery in the fob is not needed to start the car. I think you're going to need to talk to the dealer or locksmith who has the ability to program fobs.

Thank you @lawsoncl One of the technical checked with another key and he said my key fob is good. It has to be something electrical issue. Tomorrow I am calling an electrician to check. Hoping the electrician can solve the issue.
