Looking at a "Buy Back" 2015 Limited 3.2
Hi all, this is my first post on the forum. I'm currently looking at a 2015 Limited with the 3.2 that was a buy back from Chrysler. Is has 15k miles, it's loaded for $25,900—which seems like a great deal.
I'm well aware of the transmission issues with the KLs, but the dealer has assured me the all that was needed after the buy back was the new software and the trans is good to go now.
Having said that, I'm not one to believe a dealership BUT they are going to extend the warranty (bumper to bumper) for an additional year on top of the original warranty.
I asked them what the build date was and they said December 2014—which from my research on here, looks like is before they fixed the hardware issues with the trans in Jan '15.
I need some help on this one. Are the transmissions built before Jan '15 a lost cause and should they be avoided at all costs? I've read some horror stories with people trying to get Chrysler to do the right thing with buy backs, etc. and I really don't want to get stuck with a trans that could turn out to be bad if they won't replace it.

I'd stay away from a prior "lemon" at ALL COSTS... you're just going to have the same problems (and then some) that the previous owner experienced... once Jeep buys 'em back, they should be used for research by Jeep ONLY, NOT resold. But they don't, they just resell 'em.

I don't know what trans are good or bad because it seems hit n miss through all years 14-16 and all models. My mother in law (who has a sport) told me her sister (who has a 15 trailhawk) just got her trans replaced by the dealer after very little hassle.
Just check out the TSB list and ask yourself if you have enough time to wait at the dealer when they won't give you a loaner. Every TSB out on the '14 has been applicable to my latitude.
