You all follow this channel on Youtube? This gentleman does off road recovery out in Utah and has a channel on YouTube. He has a XJ that he uses for the work that he recently rebuilt. He beefed the cooling system up with bigger radiator, mechanical fan, and water pump. But he didn't give any details in his videos on what parts he used from what vehicles. Do any of you all know?

He probably used a thicker radiator, heavy duty/grand cherokee fan and clutch, and one of those "high flow" water pumps. None of that stuff is needed when the cooling system and engine is healthy.
I watch one of their videos once in a while. I usually cant stand the 15 or 20 minutes of filler before and after the actual rescue. I want to see the scene, hear and explanation of the situation, and see the recovery. No need for a 40 minute video most of the time

Yep. There is waaaay too much yap yap yap on that channel. He'd probably triple his subscribers in a month if he would learn to cut it down.

The way he did it requires a different steering box, a Toyota IFS box which mounts outside the frame unlike out inside mount boxes. Then he fabricated a dropped cross member similar to the ZJ dropped crossmember. That allowed him to use a relatively inexpensive after market aluminum radiator with a 2" or 2.5" core. The fan is bigger, but at this time he has not solved his hood problem and is using it without a hood

He claims they are stronger. He bases that on his participation in destruction derbies. However, be advised if you go that route that you will have to fabricate a new track bar and mount to allow for a longer track bar if you want to maintain prober geometry. He is using a triangulated four link front end and high steer on his one ton front end so he didn't have to worry about it.

Yuck. That is entirely too much work. My overheating issues are not that bad. It just gets hot on the trails when I push it hard. I have all new OEM cooling system from a later year (deleted that pressure tank and it's convoluted hose setup). Maybe I'll go a more conventional route and put hood vents with fans for the trails. Or maybe some fender vents with extraction fans for a more atypical install.

You might check into Novak enterprises. They have some aftermarket aluminum radiators. Also, do you have all shrouds in place?

I have all stock cooling system with the exception of a fan clutch for a 4cyl XJ and I have no trouble with it overheating on hot days.

He mentioned an interesting fact about the high flow water pumps. According to him the high flow pumps don't handle too well high rpms which is what he does most of the times during his recoveries, so has had better luck with the oem style pumps.
Also I don't really think the clutch fan is from the GC he claims it is rated at 9000 cfm.
He doesn't have any efan though its just a single clutch fan which is perfect for his use. If you are overheating while wheeling why dont you do the dual electric fan conversion and get som extra power and have both fans running full speed while going slow?

If you go dual efans, make sure you are flowing adequate air with them. The OEM combination flows 3000 cfm. It can be done with efans, but most are not up to that.
