Jeep Grand Cherokee 1999-2004: How to Replace Interior Lights with LEDs

LED bulbs provide greater illumination and last longer than traditional stock halogen bulbs for the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

You can install LED bulbs all around the interior of your Jeep Cherokee for an improved, brighter look, and more comfortable feel while driving, particularly at night when searching for things can be difficult. Whether you want a bright light to light up your interior like a living room, or you just like a bright area to sit in, LED lights are the way to go. Keep reading to learn how quick and easy it is to install new LED bulbs in your Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Materials Needed

  • Replacement bulb(s)
  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Cotton work gloves

Step 1 – Replace rear and front dome lights

Grab your replacement LED bulb(s), and then climb into the front cabin of your Jeep Grand Cherokee. Using a flat head screwdriver, or your hands, remove the front dome light cover and set it to the side. Pry out the old bulb by hand; do not use a flat head screwdriver or any other tool to keep from potentially damaging the housing. Install your replacement LED bulb. Recommended for use is the RL4410 Festoon Base LED bulb for your front and rear dome lights as they offer unbeatable illumination. Check that your front LED bulb is working before moving on to your rear dome light.

If you want or need to do a complete replacement of your dome light, it's recommended that you consider one of the many plug-and-play options on the market. These are easy to install and do not require professional expertise or special tools. If the replacement you purchase is not a direct plug-and-play, it might be necessary to swap out the connector, which is also an easy job.

Step 2 – Replace map light and gauge cluster bulbs

Continue to move around your Jeep, swapping out your old bulbs for your replacements. You can play around with colors like blue, green, yellow or white.

Step 3 – Keep bulbs bright

While LED bulbs do not require any special care or instructions, you will want to replace them when needed and avoid touching the actual bulb with your fingers when you are completing a replacement. It's recommended using cotton gloves while you work to avoid transferring oils onto the actual bulb.
